Southampton have completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Højbjerg, 20, joins Saints on a five-year contract having decided to leave the German giants due to a lack of regular first team starts.

Estimates in terms of the transfer fee paid by Saints to Bayern Munich are largely in the region of €15m (£12.8m).

The Danish midfielder – who has 15 senior caps already – represented Bayern on 25 occasions as well as featuring in loan spells with fellow Bundesliga outfits Augsburg and Schalke.

Højbjerg is a highly-rated young talent, recognised by Pep Guardiola as one of the most exciting upcoming stars, well-regarded for his technical ability, work rate and professional approach.

The 20-year-old is Claude Puel’s first signing as Saints boss, and follows Nathan Redmond in signing for the club this summer.
